Restorative Dentistry in Murrieta, CA Dr. Todd Curley
Restorative dentistry is that area of dentistry that repairs a damaged tooth or, in worse cases, replaces a lost tooth. While the tooth is one of the hardest parts of the body, it is subject to near-constant forces inflicted by regular and irregular meals, as well as corrosive substances and bacteria and the occasional trauma caused by accidents.
At the office of Dr. Todd Curley, DDS, we offer several restorative treatment options that cover a wide range of needs. These are:
Composite Fillings
A composite, or tooth-colored, filling is used to repair a tooth that has decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then the resulting gap will be filled with a composite filling.
Dental Bonding
Sometimes, the damage is too big for a composite filling, especially in cases where a portion of the tooth has broken off. For these, we would recommend dental bonding. Like with dental fillings, we will first remove the damaged and decayed part, clean the area, and then apply the tooth-colored bonding material, shape it to match how your tooth looked before, and then harden it with a curing light.
Dental Crown Placement
A dental crown is a custom-fabricated cap that is placed over the damaged tooth. This is used when much of the tooth’s structure has been compromised or broken off but the root is still intact.
Dental Bridge Placement
A dental bridge is a tooth replacement prosthetic that consists of the artificial replacement tooth (or teeth, if the missing teeth are in a row) flanked by crowns that serve as its support abutments. The crowns are attached over the prepared healthy teeth on both sides of the gap left by the missing tooth/teeth.
Denture Placement
When multiple teeth have been lost due to damage or decay, they can be replaced by dentures. Dentures are removable teeth-replacement appliances that consist of sets of artificial teeth fixed to a gum-colored acrylic base and, in the case of partial dentures, a metal framework. The other variant, full dentures, are fabricated to replace complete arches of teeth, either the top, the bottom, or both arches.
Dental Implant Placement
A dental implant is a tooth root replacement prosthetic made of titanium. The implant is placed into the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone to function as a solid foundation for the replacement tooth or, working with other strategically placed implants, for implant-supported bridges or implant-supported dentures.
